Additional Notice for Health Data for Consumers in Washington and Nevada

This Additional Notice for Health Data (“Notice”) supplements our Global Customer Privacy Statement regarding our processing of health-related data as required under applicable law in the states of Washington and Nevada.

We may collect certain health-related data (“health data”) from you when you submit a customer service request or complaint related to your health.  Such health data may include:

  • Your health conditions, treatment, diseases, or diagnosis;
  • Health-related surgeries or procedures;
  • Use or purchase of medication;
  • Measurements of bodily functions, vital signs, or characteristics; or
  • Other health-related information you provide in your communications with us.

We collect and use your health data to respond to your request for customer support or address your complaint, or to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.  If you submit a customer service request or complaint specific to our franchisees, we will share your communication, including your health data, with the applicable franchisee so that they can respond to your request or complaint.  We may use third-party service providers to process your health data on our behalf and share each category of your health data described above, but we do not allow such third parties to collect or use your health data over time and across different Internet websites or online services.  

Subject to applicable law, you may have the following rights related to your health data:

  • Right to Access.
  • Right to Delete/Withdraw.

You may request to exercise these rights by visiting the McDonald’s Privacy Rights Center.  Please note, as permitted or required under applicable law, we take steps to verify your request before we can process your request.  If we believe we need further information to verify your request, we may ask you to provide additional information to us. 

In some cases, we may be unable to fulfill your request.  If your rights request is denied, applicable law may give you a right to lodge an appeal with us.  The response to your rights request will inform you of any appeal rights you may have and tell you how you can exercise them.

We will retain and use your health data for the length of time needed to carry out the purposes outlined in this Notice and in accordance with our record retention policies.

If we change this Notice, we will post the revised version here and change the last updated date (the date it applies from) and/or contact you directly where we deem appropriate to do so under applicable law. You should check here regularly for the most up-to-date version of the Notice.
