Senior Vice President and Chief Restaurant Officer, McDonald’s USA

Mason Smoot is Senior Vice President and Chief Restaurant Officer for McDonald’s USA. He is responsible for the National Franchising and Operations of nearly 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the United States. In this role, Mason oversees Franchising, U.S. Operations, Franchisee Relations and the operation of our nearly 700 company-owned and operated restaurants.

A 30-year McDonald’s veteran, Mason’s experience in various roles has given him a strong firsthand perspective of the McDonald’s business and how the market shapes the customer perception of the McDonald’s brand.

Mason began his career with McDonald’s in 1994 in the former Bedminster, New Jersey Region as the Regional Human Resources Manager, followed by holding the positions of Regional Franchising Manager and McOpCo Operations Manager. He served as Field Service Manager and Director of Operations in the New York Metro Region and, in 2001, was promoted to Vice President and Operations Officer of the Pittsburgh Region, where he was responsible for the operations of more than 400 restaurants from Rochester, NY to Southern West Virginia.

In 2006, Mason became the Vice President of Operations for the New York Metro Region and subsequently promoted in 2007 to Vice President/General Manager. While in New York, he was responsible for leading more than 620 restaurants, owned and operated by more than 140 franchisees in one of the world’s most dynamic global markets.

Mason has also spent time in the Global side of the McDonald’s business, serving as Senior Vice President, Strategic Alignment and Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO where he worked closely with the Global CEO and Senior Leadership Team to coordinate strategic management, performance management and alignment. He also led the global restaurant innovation initiative.

McDonald’s USA is headquartered in Chicago and an active member of the community. Mason serves on the Board of Managers for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago.

Prior to joining McDonald’s, Mason served as a Military Intelligence Officer with the U.S. Army. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Western Kentucky University. A proud family man, Mason and his wife, Toni, reside near the Chicagoland area.
